    Mom”s birthday

Mom’s birthday was yesterday, Saturday, I know it was last minute but in one day I managed to : Teach Kawika to wash clothes and hang them; Clean toilets with him; teach him how to clean the bathroom sink; watch Tiger Woods on tv; make cinnamon blueberry bread in the bread maker; get Kawika off to his baseball game; make Mom’s birthday present  (which was 2 zipper pouches, 1 coin purse, and 1 clothespin bag – more about this later); then think of something to bring for potluck at mom’s house; make chicken with bell pepper spaghetti sauce and whole wheat spaghetti; make coleslaw; and then get to Mom’s by 6-ish.
Whew what a day.  Don’t think that happens all the time or that I am that industrious.  It’s just that  I’m a "think of things at the last minute" person.   I just was thinking,  what am I giving to Mom for her birthday,  what am I bringing to her house for potluck.  I did also manage to sing with Kawika while he was playing his ukulele.
Seems he is learing ukulele in school.  That sure is a good thing!  And he’ll be learning that for 2 years, then if he is good he can play that for band.  Isn’t that neat?  I hope the big budget cuts in the DOE doesn’t affect that.
Anyway, today we don’t go to Mom’s for dinner so it’s a rest day.
And back to the clothespin bag.  There was a great tutorial on Craftzine for the clothespin bag, that’s how I got the idea.  Sadly I didn’t think of photoing it.  I will when I make another one.  I look on that site everyday, there’s always something neat on it.  Then I started searching online for more free sewing patterns, oh yeah that was also what I did yesterday.
Here is the site for the dirndl clothespin bag (click on the name) I says to just cut one set and bind the opening and edges, but I decided I wanted it sturdier and cut out 2 sets.
I then put the 2 fronts right side facing and stitched around the opening, clipped seam, turn right side out, ironed, top stitched, and then followed the rest of the instructions.
It looked really pretty in hawaiian print with a contrasting apron, and no rickrack.
The tricky part was printing the pattern out in 200%.
When I printed it out, all I could get was 2 corners, don’t know how you could print it out 200% and get the whole pattern so I just got the 2 corners and traced it upside down to get the other corner and taped it together.  If you know how to enlarge a pattern so it comes out in multiple sheets, please tell me.
Anyway, today is a calm day, Kawika goes baseball with his other grandpa (Oh did I tell you we were babysitting cause his mom is in CA?) and we go church till noon.
Will post photos of more pinbags that I plan to make for Xmas.

    I’m sewing now!

I found this site that had fabuous instructions to make a little pouch with a zipper.
I made a few and adjusted it till I was happy with the size.  My daughter wanted one that could fit her iphone and ds.  I did have to write down all my adjustments; size of material, length of seams, etc.
Here are some of them that I made:
This is the one Dawn liked best:
And all the stuff that goes inside:
The best part is that I have all the stuff to make it at home.
Left over materials, interfacing left over from my embroiderying machine,
rolls of "cut as you go" zippers leftover from my little girls bag project, and I will use the leftover notions from making bead-animals keychains.
I’ve cut a bunch but you know how my mind wanders, this today and maybe something else tomorrow.
Right now I’m sewing this cause Dawn’s (my daughter) is goin L.A. monday and will give some to my aunt and cousin, who she is staying with.
Makes me feel good when I can use thing I have leftover from another project.

    The party’s over..

Well, the mini vacation is over, tomorrow have to go work.  I did get some crafts done.
I made 2 chemo caps, made from really soft yarn, Caron Simply Soft.  They turned out rather cute.  Will make more with time permitting.
I also made a coffee cup cozy.  I found, when someone gave me a gift card for Starbucks, or when I bought coffee at 7-11, the cardboard sleeve they give you just doesn’t give enough protection and it was really got hot to carry.  So, I looked for a pattern for a coffee cup cozy, why make my own pattern when there are tons of free patterns on the internet.  I found it at LionBrandYarn, under free patterns, I used regular yarn and it works great, no more burnt fingers.  Tell me if you want one and I’ll send one over.
Think I’ll make them for Christmas.

    Everyone’s all okay

Kawika went to the doctor yesterday and she said he’s all okay.
My finger is doing well, the flap has healed and looks like will leave a scar
Been home since last friday, nice to have comp time to take mini vacations.
Been watching tv, catching up on my tv shows, watched the movie Ponyo yesterday.  Loved it!!  Love Hayao Miyazaki’s aminated movies, and trying to make a library or his movies.
Princess too went to the vet for checkup and weighed in at 13 lbs.  Doesn’t sound too much and she is only 1 lb heavier than Midnight but the vet said she’s too fat and loving her c/d food too much.  She had to switch to a Crystal free diet after getting too many urinary infections and blood in her urine.  It seems to work and she loves the food, will even go to her bowl and cry for food.  Funny huh?
Watching Tiger Woods playing the PGA today, colored my hair this morning, trying to crochet a chemo cap.  Just another lovely day.

    Oww wees and stuff

This saturday was a day for oww wees, First Kawika got hit by a baseball while running to home plate.  He went to Emergency but they couldn’t tell if he had a broken nose till the swelling goes down.
Then while installing some fluorescent lights at church, I sliced the top of my index finger.  Put some pressure on it and taped it up, hoping the flap will heal back to the finger.
Other than that it was a humid saturday.  The rest of the long weekend went better, decided to be lazy or rather, in healing mode and just vegged out.  I’m now making cards and cleaning my desk.
Here is another funny photo I snapped of my neighbors house.  Seems he brought his truck home and parked it in his driveway.  Looks like he’s moving his house huh?  Funny!

    What is a bidet?

I was talking to one of the guys at work and he said he purchased some bidets from some guy for cheap and installed them at his mom’s house.  She really loved it cause she has incontinence and his father wears a diaper, even though he can clean himself, the bidet was just a god-send for them.  I started looking into bidets cause I remember them in Japan.  They were great, made you feel really clean without harsh wiping.  Sooo, I found some new ones that just attach under the toilet seat and uses the water pressure from under the tank.  It just connects to the same water source as the toilet.  It came yesterday and when Kawika wanted to know what that was, Roger explained about the concept of bidet and he wouldn’t believe it.  He just thought he was joking and Roger told Kawika to ask Mama (me).  So he asked me about it and I told him and he just giggled.  Then he was so excited about Roger installing it, he wanted it installed that night.  I explained that Papa doesn’t work that fast and he would need some time to study it.  Maybe tomorrow it’ll be installed.  Looking a little dissappointed, he went to bed.
Today when I came back from work guess what?  Roger was working on the bidet and had it installed.
Pretty neat looking, no one used it yet, we’re waiting for Kawika to use it first.
And this is what the kitties were doing all the while Roger was working:
They were giving him moral support !

Okay, I have new stuff, I don’t know if I blogged about my new, used Bread Machine.  I bought it off of Craigslist from this guy.  It’s a Zorijushi Bread Machine.  I think they go for 2C new and I got it for 30 bucks.  Sooo I started making bread again, seeing is how a nice loaf can go for 4 to 5 bucks.  After adjusting stuff and getting to know the machine, and after making several loaves for the birds, I can make a pretty descent loaf of bread!  This is the machine:
It makes a rectangular bread like regular kinds.  Sure is good warm with lots of butter!
